From Minnesota to Mississippi: The Republican Selective Outrage Playbook
Summary:
I break down how “waste, fraud, and abuse” only seems to matter on the right when they can pin it on a brown or Black face and why that selective outrage is the point, not a bug.
I start with the Minnesota “Feeding Our Future” storyline that got dragged back into the headlines by a 22-year-old MAGA YouTuber playing gotcha at daycare centers—then trace how that stunt was weaponized to smear Somali communities and even justify cutting off hunger funds in Minnesota. From there, I follow the money and the pattern: deregulate, look away, then scream “fraud!” when it’s politically convenient—while downplaying or ignoring massive scandals involving white Republican power brokers and donors.

Now, this particular scandal came back into our cultural awareness thanks to Nick Shirley, a 22-year-old MAGA YouTuber whose parents have been in and around fraud of their own for quite a while. But that's besides the story.
by MAGA nut jobs, so you can [:Now, his expose has been debunked, and it's gonna be highly likely that he's going to get sued for defamation, but that's. A secondary part of the story now because he connected charity fraud to the Somali community. Prominent figures in the regime took up the call to arms and pointed all of their fire to the Somali community,
to the point that the Diapered Orange dementia patient in the Oval Office has now ordered that any. Funds designed to feed the hungry are completely cut off for the state of Minnesota.
But
you know
This charity has been in, in [:In fact, the reason why this particular scandal accelerated during the COVID era is because Amy Bach took advantage of the Trump regimes.
Instruction that regulatory agencies and oversight should be reduced in light of the pandemic and its impact. The goal was to get as much money into the market as possible, and certainly Amy Bach did her part to take advantage of that loophole to the tune of $250 million. What's interesting about this scandal is that she was prosecuted and convicted.
ompletely overlooked and not [:And trump aligned megaphones and mouthpieces because it's in their best interest to. Point the finger at Brown and black people whenever possible. Don't believe me. Let's take a look at how the response has been in several other scandals that involved white people that have flown under the radar.
First one I'll mention is Brett Fav. Brett Fav is responsible for a $77 million charity fraud instance where he's stealing money from the poorest. Of poor in Mississippi in order to fund a pet project at his daughter's university. That scandal. Ripped off the government for approximately $77 million, and that's all alleged now because it's going through the court process.
umber of the usual suspect's [:that is the typical fare for how this works.
Republicans will gut oversight and gut regulations, and then when fraud occurs, they'll blame the government for those instances as a lack of oversight and as a pretext for cutting government even more. It's a giant circular grift that Republicans run whenever they're in office,
brett Fav isn't alone in escaping scrutiny when it comes to scandals like this. Nathan Rio is another charity founder who ripped off the government to the tune of $65 million, and this again happened during the COVID era.
[:You have Robert Maxwell, who is another COVID era charity founder who ended up stealing $12.5 million from the government.
You have Keith Taylor, the executive director of Modest Needs who stole $2.5 million from the government. Over a period of years now, those numbers sound big, $250 million, $77 million, $65 million, and so on, and those things should definitely be prosecuted.
But what's the pattern? These are all white men and white women who have been at the tips of the spear in executing and conducting these sorts of frauds, and they've been completely ignored in terms of the vitriol that should be justifiably directed at them. But what do you see instead?
What
you see
antly, blame brown and black [:Was the CEO that directed a $1.7 billion Medicare fraud scheme. And this came out when he ran for office. And guess what happened? He got elected to Senator. A white Republican billion dollar fraudster gets rewarded for conducting that fraud with a Senate seat. But Rick Scott isn't alone. You have other Republicans that are running the same scam and get away scot free.
e Casey DeSantis each have a [:And that's under investigation.
Not to be outdone, her husband, Ron, the governor of Florida, is under investigation now for a $35 million. Fraud scheme where he diverted state taxpayer funds to his own pet projects in fighting against a couple of referenda that were recently on the ballot. So he is diverting funds that are designed for those in need to fight against policy positions that he doesn't like.
cause we can't pin that on a [:When you want to talk about this current regime or even the first term, fraud is as necessary for that regime success as oxygen is, and some would argue it's even more necessary. Just a couple things to keep in mind.
Have you heard about how the United Arab Emirates had sent World Liberty Financial $2 billion? World Liberty Financial is a crypto platform that has deep investments by the Trump regime and allies while the UAE sent them $2 billion.
billion stake in [:The Binance CEO was actually pardoned by the Trump regime that CEO pled guilty to.
Charges related to money laundering and lack of proper security controls or protocols when it came to his crypto platform and anti-money laundering efforts. Funny how that works.
Did we forget about the Qatari $400 million jet? Did we forget about the Trump Gold card? Do we forget about how quickly? Trump's net worth has skyrocketed since he's taken power. When we wanna talk about fraud and when the media wants to talk about fraud, it's funny how those things get ignored,
d black communities face the [:This is a long running pattern of behavior that proves out that republican administrations Republican voters and their media mouthpieces only care about fraud when they can point the finger at a brown or black community that they can attack while ignoring the rampant fraud, waste, and abuse that is perpetrated on a regular basis by whites in power
